She was the first to bring Tejano to mainstream culture. It was an emerging star who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial young performer dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to achieve. To prevent her successes from going unnoticed, many fans over the last few times have been motivated to achieve more. Selena, the Tejano performer who tragically shot to death in a shooting accident, caused the Latino reaction that could be likened to the reaction to John Lennon's deaths. She was an incredibly popular singer among Latinos in North America. But her music touched both the young as well as the elderly. Selena is a flamboyant sexually attractive performer who is sometimes described as Latina Madonna. However, she's a respected role model because on stage, Selena exhibits a family-oriented attitude and actively is involved in anti-drug campaigns.
